Why I Became a Life Coach
This article contains my reflections on life coaching, as associated with my life coaching practice, Jessica Yen Professional Coaching. As part of my business, I would like to write and share a periodic newsletter to document my thoughts and learning.

I was in a parking lot in Las Vegas the first time I ever cried tears of joy.
I was a senior in college, at a weekend Vegas getaway for a friend’s birthday in November 2013. I had just gotten off the phone with the recruiter from Deloitte Consulting, who had extended me a job offer to join their Technology Consulting practice out of the San Francisco office as a first-year analyst.
As I saw it then, I had ‘made it’. This was arguably what I had been working for my entire 22 years of life up until that point: a high-paying job. I saw financial stability as the basis of my adult existence, the foundation that I needed to do anything, most importantly to provide for my mom and my future family.
It didn’t matter that I never had a particular passion to pursue as a career. As long as the job I was offered was high-paying and stable, I’ll take it! If the work happened to be interesting, great.
